The carrying capacity of every aircraft, truck, and ship is ultimately limited by space or weight. If you load a vessel with heavy cargo, you may hit its weight limit before filling all available space. If you load a vessel with light cargo, you may fill all available space before hitting the weight limit. So, when calculating the cost of moving your shipment, we consider both the weight and volume of your cargo, by converting the volume into a “weight equivalent,” also known as volumetric weight or dimensional weight. The charge will be based on the actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is greater.
This is the formula to calculate the volumetric weight:
For Regular Air & Ocean Fast Line, Volumetric weight per carton = Carton Length (cm) * Width (cm) * Height (cm) /6000.
For Express Air: Volumetric weight per carton = Carton Length (cm) * Width (cm) * Height (cm) /5000.
The chargeable weight is the greater of volumetric weight and the actual weight of the cargo.
Similarly for Ocean Regular Line, the weight volume is calculated as max(total gross weight in kg/363, total volume in cbm).
